The BOULDER lounge and ottoman was inspired by an object from one of Charles’ fond childhood memories. Along with his father, they saw a grinding stone used by Aboriginals to grind grain for bread. The well-worn shape from the years of use was translated into a design with a strong form yet comfortable and embracing. This language is passed on to the matching ottoman with a well-worn stone shape that can be sat on, perched or leaned against.

Inspired by a grinding stone used for pounding grain that Charles grew up with. “It had a slender, tapering form, blunted and smooth from years of use”, Charles recalls. The scalloped arm is comfortable and embracing, and has been developed as a continuous sweep. This stretched form, achieved using moulded foam, is echoed in the ottoman. Again comfort and use were considered here, as both an object to sit on or lean into.
